Strength and Stillness: Honouring the Oak Moon through Nature, Craft & Connection
Guest Blog by Harmony in Nature
As the Wheel of the Year turns, we now enter the powerful phase of the Oak Moon, which spans from 10th June to 7th July in the poetic Celtic Tree Calendar, created by Robert Graves. Known as Duir in Ogham (pronounced Doo-er), the oak is a tree of deep wisdom, endurance, and sacred strength. Revered across cultures as the king of the woods, the oak represents not only physical resilience but also the spiritual grounding needed to stand tall in times of change.
This is a time to pause, gather inner strength, and align with the great cycles of nature and our own personal growth. Under the Oak Moon, we are invited to recognise the strength we already possess, and to channel it with mindful purpose.
Why Oak? A Tree of Power, Wisdom & ProtectionThe oak has long held symbolic and practical importance throughout the British Isles. Druids taught beneath its boughs, associating it with thunder gods and sky deities. Its very name, Duir, shares linguistic roots with the word door, hinting at the oak’s role as a gateway between worlds, offering both protection and passage.
In herbal traditions, oak bark has been used for its healing astringent properties, while oak gall ink has written centuries of human history. Today, the oak still holds a central role in native ecosystems, supporting more species than any other tree in the UK.
The Oak Moon brings a grounded strength, reminding us to root ourselves deeply in what matters, stand firm in our truth, and offer shelter to others when we can.
