Using wood and natural materials coppiced and gathered locally we offer a selection of Wood Art and Crafts for you to make and take away, heirlooms to treasure or gift to a loved one.
Our workshops vary in length from two-hour tasters to full day workshops.
What can I make?
From wooden hearts, signs, walking sticks, coasters, tea light holders, bird boxes, bug boxes and seasonal decorations such as a wooden Snowman, Christmas Trees, Santa or Wooden Reindeer plus much more!
In this one day workshop you will make a rustic walking stick, you can make either a Antler thumb stick or a carved hiking stick. Some visitors have even managed to make two walking sticks in the time available!
Choose your stick from a selection of Hazel provided and measure to size.
You can peel and scorch your hazel, whittle in a design or lightly sand the bark by hand to achieve your desired finish.
Once prepared you will then degrease and oil your stick.
The next step is to select your Antler, drill both the stick, Antler and a Buffalo Horn spacer.
You will also be adding a threaded bar to join everything together. Glue together using a resin based adhesive e.g. Araldite.
Once set you will shape the spacer to match the bottom of the handle and the stick.
The next step is to sand down the Antler and wax to finish.
Finally, you will fit a ferrule on the bottom of the stick.
