WILLOW BREAD BASKET WORKSHOP

Join Lorraine for a full-day Willow Bread Basket Workshop suitable for beginners.

In this workshop you will learn how to make a woven Willow base using a pairing weave, this can be a large base if you prefer to make a platter and different colours of Willow can be used to make an attractive design.

For the Bread Basket, you will stake up the sides of the basket; you will learn waling, pairing, English randing, and a three-rod track border.

You will also learn about Willow, how it is grown, how to prepare Willow, and the traditional basket weaving techniques used.

We will use a mix of both brown and buff Willow depending on your basket of choice and sometimes steemed Willow, this will be prepared in advance for use.

Brown Willow is the generic name for Willow that we buy in dried bundles, this is then soaked before use. Buff Willow is boiled to remove the bark and is also soaked before use but doesn’t take as long to prepare. Steamed Willow produces a lovely, contrasting dark colour created by the tannins released during the steaming process.

WILLOW craft for the birds

Join Lorraine for either a half-day or full-day workshop learning to make Hanging Bird Feeders and/or Birdhouse to take home and hang in your garden or to gift to a loved one.

You will learn all about Willow how it’s grown, and how to use it to create beautiful crafts for your home and garden.

In this workshop, you will learn the weaving techniques used to create a hanging bird feeder and birdhouse. We will create both the feeder and birdhouse using a table top jig and brown Willow that has been soaked in preparation to ensure it is flexible for weaving. This is a very rewarding workshop

Using natural materials we ensure these crafts do not look out of place in your garden, and more importantly, they will attract the birds.

• Hanging Bird Feeder (morning)
• Hanging Bird House (afternoon)

Willow & Wine

I had a lovely afternoon of live willow weaving. It was very relaxing and enjoyable and I came home with two willow sculptures I’m rather proud of and can hopefully enjoy for years to come – all with a glass of delicious Albury English sparkling wine thrown in to boot! Thank you Lorraine for a great session!

A really enjoyable light lunch, glass of bubbles and relaxing making a lovely star from willow. So many uses for the star other than just Christmas. Lorraine’s courses are really excellent.

Thank you so much for our very enjoyable morning at Albury Vineyard. It was lovely to meet you. The setting is absolutely beautiful and we felt very fortunate to be the only group. It was really good to try something new, and we were all pleased with the results! Thank you for our refreshments, including the lovely glass of fizz which helped to mark the occasion.
